RELATIONSHIPS

One of the founding mission statements for my business was to create strong relationships with my athletes. As I’ve always had the same with my coaches in the past, a strong connection doesn’t only allow for easier communication but it also facilitates greater trust and the desire to perform for not only your coach, but your friend. Let’s get strong together and have fun doing it!

LEARNING TOGETHER

There’s more than one way to skin a cat as they say, this also reigns true with training strategies and methods with different people. As stated above I’ve worked with a huge variety of athletes over the years from 12 year olds to 72 year olds, 45kg lifters to 170kg lifters and all age and weight classes in between. Not one two people require the exact same program and service and I pride myself on working TOGETHER with individuals to find their perfect plan towards success.

COMPASSION BREEDS RESILIENCE

Mental toughness in a sport like Powerlifting is key, there will be times when you’ll plateau despite a lot of hard work, maybe pick up an injury or get sick two weeks out from a comp (after a fantastic cycle!), or you might suffer a traumatic life event. The point is there are any number of things that can happen to hinder progress on a short term basis in a sport that most do as a hobby. Again I’ve had the experience to work through all of these things with my athletes over the years and I’ve picked up the skills to deal with most of them, I feel like this is something that can be overlooked by a lot of coaches and needs much more attention as it can have a huge effect on day to day training. I’ll always be ready to lend an ear and customise training to get people through tough times. There is always a way back to training and the platform!

John Strachan

Coach

I don’t like talking about myself, I like to let my own lifting and more importantly that of my lifters do the talking for me. Having said that I’ll list some of my achievements over the years

As a lifter:

  • Auckland Champ 15 times
  • National Champ 10 times
  • Oceania Champ 2 times
  • Commonwealth Champ 1 time
  • IPF Junior Worlds placings 08 9th, 09 12th, 11 7th.
  • IPF Open Classic Worlds 16 10th, 18 4th.
  • I’ve held, on and off, multiple junior and open records from provincial up to regional international level and everything in between.

As a Coach:

I’ve helped more lifters become provincial, state, national and international champions than I could even begin to find accurate data on. Just know it’s in the many dozens, not to mention records at all levels. I’ve been selected as assistant or junior head coach at every international I’ve been to since 2008, my crowning achievement would have to be coaching Evie Corrigan to the Junior World U52 kg title at the IPF Classic Worlds in Calgary 2018 though!
